PhotonicSweden’s Master Thesis Awards and Poster Prizes

During Optics and Photonics in Sweden 2024 (OPS-2024) conference, awards were given to 1st and 2nd best Master Thesis, along with prizes for best student poster contributions.

1st prize Best Master Thesis

Kerstin Vahlin is awarded Best Master Thesis. Maria Nilsson Tengelin (left) handed over the prize for the Award Committee and Rebecka Norman (right) represented Hamamatsu Photonics Norden.

PhotonicSweden’s award (1st prize) for the best master thesis in photonics/optics within the study year 2023/24 is given to Kerstin Vahlin for her Master of Science Thesis performed at Chalmers University of Technology: “Large-angle deflection lens using supercell metasurfaces”

Kerstin has studied capabilities of metagratings to produce a focus at high angles, which is required for many applications in biophotonics such as chip-based optical tweezers. She has not only designed these metasurfaces but also manufactured and characterised them.

Hamamatsu Photonics Norden sponsors the Best Master Thesis award.

2nd prize Best Master Thesis

Adrian Vågberg accepts the award for Second best Master Thesis. Maria Nilsson Tengelin (left) handed over the prize for the Award Committee and Niklas Sazén (left in right image) represented Edmund Optics.

PhotonicSweden’s award (2nd prize) for an excellent master thesis in photonics/optics within the study year 2023/24 is given to Adrian Vågberg for his Master of Science Thesis performed at Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), titled “CO2 absorption spectroscopy with backward wave OPOs”.

Adrian Vågberg has in his thesis addressed the challenging task of quantifying the amount of CO2 present in the atmosphere using absorption spectroscopy.

The 2nd Master Thesis Award is sponsored by Edmund Optics.
