About Spectral
Mats Eriksson explains how Spectral AB came into being—a business with roots in his father Sven’s analytical instrument company, dating back to the 1960s. His parents founded Analys-Konsult AB in 1979, specializing in XRD, XRF, and OES. Mats joined part-time in the early 1980s while studying materials science and gradually took over the family business in the 1990s, expanding collaborations with partners like Cameca and Hitachi High-Tech.
In 2002, Spectral Solutions AB was established to consolidate representations and build a distinct brand with a sustainable support platform. Bruker acquired the business in 2007, and Spectral operated as an integrated part of Bruker’s Nordic operations until 2012.
Mats re-acquired Spectral Solutions from Bruker in 2012, refocusing the organization on electron microscopy and surface analysis, with Hitachi High-Tech as the primary supplier. Hitachi acquired Spectral in 2017 to support their European growth, integrating the team into a global operation while maintaining focus on existing partners and customers.
As of 2022, Spectral has signed an agreement to re-acquire the business from Hitachi, returning to operate as a dedicated Nordic organization. The company will continue close cooperation with partners, including Hitachi, with an emphasis on enhancing customer support and sharing in customer success.
