Analog fronthaul for cell-free MIMO networks
Presented by Rafael Puerta, PhD, Senior Researcher, R&D Unit, Ericsson AB
Rafael Puerta will give a talk on prospective alternatives to realize a practical and cost-effective implementation of a cell-free network using analog fronthaul optical links allowing coherent joint transmissions. A cell-free network is a system where the antennas of a base station are geographically distributed over the cell in contrast to traditional deployments where all antennas are co-located in the center of the cell. From a performance standpoint, a cell-free network typically performs better than a traditional co-located system, however its implementation faces many challenges.
Ultrahigh-speed THz wireless transmissions enabled by photonics
Presented by Xiaodan Pang, PhD, Senior Researcher at KTH, Guest Researcher at RISE
Xiaodan Pang will give a talk on the research status of high-speed wireless transmissions in the THz band assisted with photonics. Photonics technologies are envisioned to play an important role in next generations of wireless communications owing to its broad bandwidth compared with the RF counterparts. He will briefly introduce the operational principle of photonicsassisted THz transmissions and present some of the recent experimental achievements as examples.
